Moving Checklist
A week-by-week guide to help you get ready for moving day.
6–8 Weeks Before
- Request your estimate and confirm your moving date with DXI.
- Start sorting belongings — decide what to keep, sell, donate, or discard.
- For international moves, confirm your visa/residency status at the destination and check our Customs Regulations guide for document requirements.
- Notify your landlord or building management of your move-out date and any required permits.
4 Weeks Before
- Confirm your final inventory with your moving coordinator.
- Arrange school records transfer if you have children changing schools.
- Start using up frozen or perishable food.
- Begin collecting the customs documents relevant to your route — see our Customs Documents page.
2 Weeks Before
- Confirm packing date and moving day logistics with your coordinator.
- Set aside valuables, important documents, and daily essentials to carry personally, not in the moving shipment.
- Arrange address changes: bank, insurance, subscriptions, government IDs.
- Confirm parking/access arrangements at both current and destination properties.
Moving Day
- Do a final walkthrough of every room, closet, and storage area before the crew leaves.
- Check meter readings and hand over keys as required.
- Keep your inventory list and shipment reference number on hand.
- Confirm the destination address and contact details with the crew.
After You Arrive
- Check your shipment against the inventory list on delivery, and note any discrepancies immediately.
- Keep packaging for large items until you’re satisfied everything arrived undamaged.
